Notes on Weights, Measures and Oven Temperatures

Every effort has been made to provide both imperial and metric measurements in all recipes. However, below are some useful conversion charts in case you come across a quantity you are unfamiliar with. These conversions are approximate, but are used as standard in cooking.

Remember:
When following a recipe, stick to either the imperial or the metric quantities for the entire the recipe. Don’t swap and change!!

Spoon Measurements

All teaspoon and tablespoon measurements on this site are standard UK measurements. Below is a comparison between spoon sizes in different countries. You will need to adapt your recipe accordingly if you are outside the UK. Spoon quantities should be level spoons use otherwise directed.

Cup Measurements

Cups are not routinely used in recipes in the UK and where possible have been avoided on this website. However, cups are standard in North America and Australia. Below is an approximate conversion of cups into standard UK imperial and metric measurements.
